National Simultaneous Storytime 2025: The Truck Cat

Some cats are house cats. Some cats are apartments cats. But Tinka is a truck cat. Tinka lives EVERYWHERE.

This year’s National Simultaneous Storytime book is 'The Truck Cat' written by Deborah Frenkel and illustrated by Dann Snell. It's a story about cats and humans, immigration and identity, and homes lost and found. Tinka the cat travels the roads along with his truck-driving human, Yacoub. When Tinka and Yacoub are unexpectedly separated, they are determined to find their way back to each other and, in doing so, find more than they expected.

National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) is an annual event by the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA). Every year a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, is read in libraries, schools, childcare centres, bookshops and many other places all around the country, all at the same time!
