Event Description

Now in its 20th year, Melton City Libraries Short Story Competition is a fantastic opportunity for creatives of all kinds to get your work out into the world and have it reviewed by a published author.

Not sure where to start? Find your writer's voice in this interactive workshop with Alice Pung, an award-winning author from Naarm. You’ll learn how to create characters and dialogue to make your piece stand out from the crowd.

We are so pleased to welcome Alice as the adult category judge in this year's competition. Alice's non-fiction books have been set texts at schools and universities around Australia, Asia and the US. her memoir, ‘Her Father's Daughter’, won the Western Australia Premiers' Award, and her novel ‘Laurinda’ won the Ethel Turner Prize at the NSW Premier’s Literary Awards. Alice's first adult novel ‘One Hundred Days’, was shortlisted for the 2022 Miles Franklin Award, and she is also the author of several award-winning children’s books. Alice is the current Artist in Residence at Janet Clarke Hall and Adjunct Professor at RMIT University's School of Media and Communication. In 2022, she was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for services to literature.
