Discover rich heritage and culture at our monthly History Through Film sessions.
This month, travel behind the scenes of the world’s most prestigious prize in the 2006 documentary, 'Winners' Guide to the Nobel Prize'.
In 2005, Perth scientists Barry Marshall and Robin Warren were awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine. Many years before, the pair discovered a bacterium that could survive in the human stomach, which they named Helicobacter pylori. Marshall and Warren believed that this bacterium caused gastritis and peptic stomach ulcers. This angered many people in the medical world, who disagreed with their theory. After years of careful observation, luck and persistence, Marshall and Warren finally had the breakthrough they needed, but not before Marshall infected himself, using his own body as a guinea pig to test their theory.
Come along to watch this intriguing documentary in the comfort of Melton Library. After the session, we can also show you how to stream even more documentaries and films from home using your library card, absolutely free.
