Event Description

Book Week isn't just for kids. In this special screening, you're invited to learn about the 'adult' side of book world in the 2020 documentary, 'Naughty Books'.

Discover the steamy world of independent romance novels, and follow three self-published authors wrestling with the ups and downs of sudden success.

In the aftermath of 'Fifty Shades of Grey' a new trend emerged around self-published romance novels. Ordinary working-class women were suddenly bestselling authors with their own merchandise lines and die-hard fans. 'Naughty Books' follows three such women who gained thousands of fans and secured book deals with major publishers, all by writing spicy plot lines and stories of good girls and bad boys finding love. But as more and more people saw erotic romance as a quick path to money and fame, the market became saturated with hundreds of similar novels published every month, making success difficult to maintain.
