Event Description

Edward de Lacy Evans was a trans man living in nineteenth-century Melton, until when he was cruelly outed by the Victorian media.

How should De Lacy Evans be remembered? What can we learn from his legacy? We'll discuss these questions and more with panellists Sam Elkin and Tom O’Callaghan.

Sam Elkin (he/him) is an award-winning writer and broadcaster. He recently hosted the ABC Radio National History Lesson podcast episode 'Crossing Time: Australia’s Transgender History'. Sam was also a co-editor of 'Nothing to Hide: voices of trans and gender diverse Australia'.

Tom O’Callaghan (he/him) is a journalist working at the Bendigo Advertiser news desk. He researched and facilitated the Bendigo Advertiser’s formal apology for its treatment of De Lacy Evans.
