Event Description

Join local author Jenny Trewhella as she talks about her book 'Over the Log- A Tale of a Pioneering Woman’ detailing the life of her pioneer ancestor Betsey Trewhella.

The book follows Betsey’s experiences over ten years. Records abound of the results of gold mining in the Blackwood area of Australia and the achievements of the men, but lack in providing stories of women.

This book endeavours to create a broader picture of life in the mid 1800’s in Lelant, Cornwall and Barrys Reef, Blue Mount and the gold fields of Blackwood Victoria by including the experiences of the women and children who were very much part of the men’s lives; especially Jenny’s grandmother Betsey Trewhella.

Join us for a conversation with this local author and a glimpse at the hidden history of Australia.
