Event Description

This NAIDOC week, celebrate the powerful contribution of our First Nations community to Australia's arts and culture scene through our very own NAIDOC Film Festival.

Taking place across both branches of Melton City Libraries, the NAIDOC Film Festival showcases three films commemorating First Nations peoples achievements and contributions.

Join us at Caroline Springs Library to view the documentary film 'Murundak: Songs of Freedom'. A journey into the heart of Aboriginal protest music following The Black Arm Band, a gathering of some of Australia's finest Indigenous musicians, as they take to the road with their songs of resistance and freedom. From the concert halls of the Sydney Opera House to remote Aboriginal communities of the Northern Territory, murundak - meaning 'alive' in Woirurrung language - brings together pioneering First Nations singers.

NAIDOC Week (National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee) occurs annually in July, and celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

'Murundak: Songs of Freedom: Following the Black Arm Band and their Aboriginal Protest Music' is rated M. Running time 1hr 22min.
