Event Description

By late 1944, the worst of World War Two appears to be over. But the conflict in the Pacific is about to hot up and it will be a long road to Tokyo for the Allies.

Combining interviews and vivid archival footage, this is an eyewitness account of an often-forgotten episode in history, providing a social context as well as a military overview of the titanic struggle to defeat Japan. For Australia, it is signposted with some of the bloodiest campaigns and most appalling events of the war - and the memory of 8031 POWs who would never come home.

Our monthly History Through Film series is a great opportunity to view documentary films showcasing the history of our nation. After the film, we can also show you how to access many more documentaries at home using Kanopy, absolutely free!
